Sweet berries, meat and grilled citrus on the nose. Some crushed cement, too. Medium body, bright acidity, light tannins and a juicy finish. Very minerally and citrusy. From organically grown, native Tuscan grapes. Drink now.
The 2021 Dolcetto d'Alba Monte Aribaldo is fabulous. A burst of dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint and spice are all dialed up in this exuberant, fresh Dolcetto. Aging in steel keeps the flavors bright. This is beautifully done.
This is ripe and dark-fruited with chocolaty and spicy undertones. Medium-bodied with velvety tannins. Polished and soft. Juicy finish. Drink now.
In the bottle with the bluish-green label, the 2019 Chianti Rufina Riserva Vigneto Erchi shows great balance and displays the quality found across these enjoyable wines from Selvapiana. The bouquet interjects with dark cherry, iris, earth and blood orange. The wine is firm and quite concentrated in terms of mouthfeel; however, it feels bright and lifted all the while.
Masseria Li Veli is one of the few wineries that works with Susumaniello, a red indigenous variety of southern Puglia. Deep orange hue; aromas of pear jelly, currant and orange roses, with excellent freshness, very good acidity and a lengthy, round finish. Very appealing and well made; enjoy this on its own or with lighter white meats or ham over the next 2-3 years.
The oak-fermented and aged 2019 Chardonnay Löwengang shows citrusy freshness on one hand, with textured spice and vanilla on the other. This wine puts its primary fruit forward with intensity, but it also offers plenty of exciting complexity in a second wave of aromas that underline extreme care and precision in winemaking. Like the other bottles in this portfolio, this is an organic and biodynamic wine. Production is 40,000 bottles, and fruit is selected from the best parts of Löwengang in Magrè with sandy glacier soils at 230 to 330 meters in elevation.
